Hallo!

Through Roosterwax, I share my adventures in living a temporary life.

What is a temporary life? For me, it’s continuing to explore and enjoy people, places, and things without a lot of possessions and obligations.

The story of my current temporary life begins in Japan. I lived in Tokyo for several months during an internship for my master’s program. I loved living in Tokyo and realized I did not want to return to live in the U.S.

So, I made a plan.

  • Stay with friends.
  • Sell my car and possessions.
  • Finish my master’s degree.
  • Pay off my debt.

It was a good plan, and the Covid pandemic gave me lots of time to prepare for my exit.

Research other countries.

I knew there were better long-term solutions for a white woman than Tokyo, so I researched other countries.

For a while, Copenhagen looked promising, but the more I learned about living in Amsterdam, the more I swayed. Ultimately, it came down to which language I wanted to learn, and I chose Dutch over Danish.

I know it’s a silly tie-breaker, but here I am in the Netherlands.  🙂
