Offer your students opportunities to
practice being an architect.
Architects employ creative and technical skills. By developing architectural projects, students learn to think critically and constructively simultaneously.
ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN STUDIO CLASSES
Site Development
Every project begins with investigating the site. Architects become familiar with the site by documenting conditions, and looking for opportunities and constraints.
Zoning Research
Zoning research is conducted to ensure the project is allowed in that zone and to determine the maximum heights, setbacks, and other development standards.
Pre-Design Program
Architects develop a written program that specifically describes what the client wants for the project. The architect bases all design decisions on the program.
Design Phase
The Design Phase is where architects uncover important questions and conduct research to implement the best solutions.
Architects iterate and refine their designs over time.
Model Making
There are many kinds of architectural models, including study models, which are made with simple paper and tape construction. Students gain experience using different materials and model-making techniques.
The Art of Presenting
Students learn how to share their design process with other students and visitors and how to give the presenter positive and constructive feedback.
